Everyone knows quite some big brands right? But which ones are the biggest of the world? Business Management US investigated this and came up with the figure further underneath [click continue reading if you're at the front page].23 of the biggest 66 brands in the world are shown in that figure. With Wallmart, Google and Coca Cola as the respective number 1, 2 and 3. But also other huge companies like IBM, Microsoft, HP, Walt Disney, Apple, Nokia and Nestlé can be found amongst the biggest of all brands. Also interesting is that the Banking sector and the Telecom sector showed the largest increase in brand value in the previous year. However one could say the increase in the banking sector comes after a few years of large decreases because of the financial crisis. Last but not least I want to add that the US possesses 162 of the 500 biggest brands. The second place is for Japan with 53 huge brands. France is the, to me surprising, number tree with 47 of the 500 biggest brands. Next in this list are Germany, Switzerland, China, the UK and Spain.

Also interesting to see is the evolution that the different brands made in 2010 compared to 2009. Wallmart remained the number one while Google rose from the 5th to the 2nd place. It’s big competitor Microsoft went from the 4th place to the 5th place. You can see the rest of the top 500 and their place in 2009 and 2010 here.

Zooming in on Belgium for a moment, since I’m a Belgian citizen myself, I can see 3 Belgian companies in the top 500:

  • 320th place: KBC
  • 341th place: Stella Artois
  • 413th place: Colruyt

If you’re wondering right now why the Belgian AB Inbev is not in this list, amongst quite some other important companies, you must realize that this is a list about the best brands, not the best companies. Companies that only have one or a handfull of brands will therefore have the advantage in this list!
